Evil because they can be.

What causes people to act be evil?

Has the internet, in it's very essence that provides anonymity to the weak that cannot act in such a manner when face-to-face with someone, created a place where the weak can unleash all their anger and hatred by being an ass?

I mean, there's always rude people, but what about the people that -are- nice, and they wouldn't hurt a fly face-to-face, but when they've got a shield of anonymity... Is that who they really are?

Why don't they hurt people in RL? Because everybody will know that it was them. They would not be able to run away and would have to answer for their actions. It will become part of their identity in the society and their life.

But what if they are too scared to gamble with their future like this? What if they still want to have a cosy home to come back at the end of the day and coil(?) up like a cat? Many people can't have only one life.

So is what they show on the net their true selves? Yes and no. They are too scared to show their dark side in the real world that's why they take advantage of the anonymity it gives. But they still need their good side too. If only because of the fear to be stared at is not clear.

And the internet is not the only vent for such needs. A mask or reliable helpers are enough.
